Tanjung Tualang

Tin Dredge, Prawns

Tanjung Tualang
Tanjung Tualang is a small town 20km south of Ipoh in the Kinta Valley, famous for its numerous tin mining pools and lakes that stretch all the way north to Batu Gajah, attracting great companies of anglers and fishermen. A massive tin dredging ship from the old days of Perak's mining era, still sits serenely above one such lake, evidence of the state's once bustling ore industry. Open for visitors at a small charge, it's a nice effort by the state authorities to preserve history. Meanwhile, the small town has developed a reputation for its game fish and freshwater prawn cuisine, served in rustic Chinese restaurants. Many have become tourist traps.
